Antenna Troubleshooting

Question:
Are your antennas weather proof?
Answer:
Yes, the antennas are weather proof.

Question:
I have service, but my receiver keeps showing "acquiring signal". How can I fix that?
Answer:
For best reception, be sure the antenna is free from obstructions. Due to the paths of the Sirius satellites over the US, the best location for the antenna in your home depends on where you live. Redirect the antenna until you get a signal. You can also refer to your owner's manual for information for the best possible direction to face your antenna.

Question:
Do I have to leave the antenna and power plugged in at all times?
Answer:
You must leave the antenna and power plugged in to the boom boxes and home or car kits at all times.

Question:
I am trying to use the receiver in my car, but I am getting a lot of static.
Answer:
Be sure you are setting the FM Transmitter to a channel that is not use for broadcasting in your area.

Question:
Where do I place the antenna in my car?
Answer:
Position the antenna in a location that gives it the best exposure to the sky. The antenna has a strong magnetic mounting to hold the antenna in place to allow for easy installing in your home or vehicle.

Question:
How can I adjust the Antenna Aiming?
Answer:
Press the MENU button on the receiver. Press the UP or DOWN "CH" button to scroll to the Antenna Aiming selection and press SELECT button. Upon entering this option, two 10-segment horizontal bar graphs are displayed with a (-) sign to the left and (+) to the right. One is labeled "SAT" satellite signal strength) and the other "TER" (terrestrial signal strength". The current setting is indicated by the bar graphs. Position the Antenna to receive the best antenna strength.

Question:
Can I use the antenna in my home or car?
Answer:
The antenna that comes in the Universal Kit can be used in either home or car.

Question:
How long is the antenna cord?
Answer:
The antenna cord is about 20 feet long.

Question:
I am not getting a signal when I am inside a building.
Answer:
For best reception, the XS028's antenna must not have any obstructions. It's better for out-door activities.

Question:
My reception is distorted.
Answer:
For best reception, be sure the antenna is free from obstructions. Due to the paths of the Sirius satellites over the US, the best location for the antenna in your home depends on where you live. Redirect the antenna until you get a better signal. If you are driving, the signal should clear up when you drive away from the obstruction. Antenna aiming can vary according to the time of the day.

Question:
My receiver is showing "Acquiring Signal" or "Antenna not Detected".
Answer:
When signal is lost, check the antenna signal and strength. Change the location of the antenna making sure it is away from obstructions.

Question:
Can I remove my car antenna and still pick up the signal from my receiver?
Answer:
You need to use the vehicle antenna to pick up the signal from the XTR1. If you are having issues with other interference, try relocating the satellite antenna to a different position on the roof of the vehicle.

Question:
Is the home antenna better for gathering a signal than the vehicle antenna because of the size?
Answer:
The home antenna has a larger size, which can give better gain at the zenith direction, but the vehicle antenna can provide wider reception angle, which matches the mobile requirement. The antennas are designed for different requirements.

Question:
My unit plays for a little while then cuts off. What can I do?
Answer:
Double check all of your connections. If they are properly connected, then disconnect the power source for about five minutes then reconnect and turn unit back on. If this does not solve your issue, you should consider returning the unit for replacement.

Question:
Can I hardwire the unit to my car?
Answer:
We do not recommend hardwiring. The cigarette lighter adaptor contains a 2-amp fuse for protection of the XTR1. If it is hot-wired, then the receiver is vulnerable to 15-30 amps of unregulated voltage (depends on where you attach the power) and that would damage the receiver before it would ever blow a fuse of that size if a problem occurred in the receiver. The adaptor also contains a step-down voltage (switching regulator and inductor circuit which controls the voltage output and smoothes out any AC ripple that may come from the car/truck alternator. The regulator circuit provides both protection and isolation of static caused by the vehicle electrical system. Please note that hardwiring or any modifica6tion of the product voids our manufacturers' warranty.

Question:
What is the adaptor tip rating for the XTR1?
Answer:
It uses a Molex connector.

Question:
What is the size of the threaded hole on the back of the XTR1?
Answer:
Size - 2.5 mm, Pitch - 0.45 mm, Tap Drill - 2.00 mm, Clearance Drill - 2.90 mm

Question:
I cannot see my display, but the audio is working. Can I fix that?
Answer:
You can try the Factory Default by pressing the MENU button, press the CH UP button once, press Select, Press the CH UP button once then press Select. If this does not work, then we would have to recommend return the receiver and remote for a replacement.

General FAQ's

Question:
I have no sound from my Satellite Receiver.
Answer:
Check the audio cables and make sure they are plugged in correctly. Check the FM Transmitter Setting and make sure that your FM radio is set to the correct channel.

Question:
My unit gets really hot. Is that normal?
Answer:
It is normal for your receiver to become very warm. Reducing the brightness and contrast will lower operating tempratures.

Question:
How can I activate my service?
Answer:
You can activate your service by going online to www.sirius.com or calling Sirius at 1-888-539-SIRIUS (7474)

Question:
I just hooked up the receiver and all I am getting is a commercial channel.
Answer:
You can activate your service by going online to www.sirius.com or calling Sirius at 1-888-539-SIRIUS (7474)

Question:
What is the PNP number?
Answer:
It is the same number as the ESN.

Question:
What comes with the receiver?
Answer:
The receiver, remote control and an antenna.

Question:
There is no sound from my external speakers or stereo system.
Answer:
Make sure the FM radio is set to the same FM transmitter setting as the receiver.

Question:
What are the dimensions of the receiver?
Answer:
4 1/4 X 2 7/8 X 3/4 Inches - Wt. 6.1 oz.

Question:
What is the difference between a wireless FM modulator and a wired FM modulator?
Answer:
A wireless FM modulator transmits the source signal to your receiver over a standard FM frequency, which you can then tune on your receiver. A wired FM modulator offers slightly better performance, since it plugs into the antenna input of the receiver.

Question:
Can I use an FM converter for the satellite radio?
Answer:
Converters will not eliminate the interference because you would still use the provided FM stations on the converter. The only way to eliminate or reduce interference is to find an FM frequency that is not being used locally and/or is not a frequency close to a used frequency of a powerful local station. A powerful local station will "bleed over" or interfere onto the satellite signal if the station frequency is too close to the frequency chosen for satellite reception. Converters could possibly make the interference worse because it combines the "air" signal with the "satellite" signal.

Question:
Does the adaptor have a positive or negative tip?
Answer:
The pin is positive and the shell is negative. This is shown on the body of the adaptor. However, we do not recommend altering the the product in anyway because it can void the warranty.

Question:
What is the industry part number for the connector on the output end of the AC adapter?
Answer:
This information is not available since the adaptor is furnished by third party.
